The David, not the original but the original location. This identical replica was placed here in 1873 when the original was moved to the Galleria dell´Accademia to protect it from the elements. It was placed here by Michelangelo as a symbol of the Republic's defiance of the tyrannical Medici. The Medici's were a family of bankers and Florence's royal family in all but name from the 14th to 18th century.
