The courtyard... To enter the mosque women are requested to wear a head scarf and everyone has to take off their shoes. They provide plastic bags to carry your shoes. I'm not sure if all mosques are like this, but I'm guessing it might be unique to Turkey, amusingly the entire interior floor of the mosque is covered in nice Turkish rugs.
